The 7 summits are the highest peaks of every continent. They are the following:

Mountain Continent Height (M) Height (F)
Everest Asia 8,850 29,035
McKinley North America 6,194 20,320
Aconcagua South America 6,959 22,830
Vinson Antarctica 4,897 16,067
Kilimanjaro Africa 5,895 19,340
Elbrus Europe 5,642 18,510
Cartensz Oceana 4,884 16,023
Kosciuszko Australia 2,228 7,310

There are eight mountains here, as there is a debate on whether Kosciuszko should be the highest peak for Australasia. Cartensz is a more formidable challenge, but lies off of the continent according to plate techtonics...People climb all eight to avoid debate whether they have achieved the goal. In my opinion, Kosciuszko is the seventh summit.

As well, Elbrus may seem strange as many believe Mont Blanc to be the continental summit of Europe. Elbrus is technically in Europe, lying in the Caucasus, but was inaccessible due to Russia's closed borders. Now all climbers recognize Elbrus as the continental summit of Europe.
